About Brighouse

The vibrant market and festival town of Brighouse, Calderdale, West Yorkshire provides independent, boutique and national stores whilst remaining community driven and welcoming. We have the grand Civic Hall, the historic Ritz Ballroom, and classical and contemporary works exhibited at Smith Art Gallery.

Brighouse occupies the most accessible position as the gateway town to the Calder Valley with access from the M62 (with Leeds, Huddersfield and Manchester close by); Brighouse sits alongside the Calder and Hebble Navigation.

There is a traditional weekly market in the town centre, as well as by specialist markets throughout the calendar year, providing up to 100 food, drink and craft stalls – these markets are themed such as the Brighouse 1940s and Victorian Christmas. making Brighouse a West Yorkshire market and festival town.

Brighouse is world famous for its Roman heritage and famous historic inhabitants: Robin Hood and Sir Titus Salt both lived in Brighouse. Over the past few years Brighouse has started to become known in Calderdale and West Yorkshire as a Festival Town, where cultural events by Arts for Brighouse are starting to engage the public and provide events to attend.


Getting to Brighouse

Rail: There are regular trains from London, Leeds, Huddersfield, Bradford, Halifax, Manchester (well everywhere!) – just 30  minutes from Leeds and 15 minutes to Huddersfield. Our station is right in the centre of the town, for train times and information see grandcentralrail.com.

Road: Brighouse is 4 miles from Halifax, 5 miles from Huddersfield, 7 miles from Bradford, 8 miles from Dewsbury, 15 miles from Leeds, and 16 miles from Wakefield. There are road signs to aid your navigation – or use HD6 1Rw to take you right into the town centre on sat nav. Parking is available throughout the town, many of the streets are free, and there are local council, supermarket and private car parks available.

Canal: Brighouse is on the Calder and Hubble Navigation Canal – we all know the speed of narrow boats, so take a leisurely trip on your boat to the Brighouse Canal Basin, then moor up and stroll into town.

Fly: International travellers to Brighouse can fly to several airports near to our town: Leeds & Bradford Airport, Manchester Airport, and Liverpool John Lennon Airport. From these airports, use rail, road or canal to get to Brighouse, Calderdale, West Yorkshire.
