Brighouse is world famous for its Roman heritage and famous historic inhabitants: Robin Hood and Sir Titus Salt both lived in Brighouse. Over the past few years Brighouse has started to become known in Calderdale and West Yorkshire as a Festival Town, where cultural events are starting to engage the public and provide events to attend. Arts for Brighouse has the ambition to make Brighouse (inter)nationally known, by inviting artists in all disciplines to perform and exhibit throughout the year.
Brighouse Events is run by Arts for Brighouse is an ambitious arts charity, with the objectives to advance the education of, and to promote public appreciation of, the arts and entertainment for the people of Brighouse, county of West Yorkshire and the Nation at large. We deliver an annual arts festival in October: The Brighouse Arts Festival, and a monthly Community Cinema in the market town of Brighouse, West Yorkshire. Our vision is to use arts and entertainment as a catalyst for building community cohesion. This years festival theme is ‘Bridges’ as the origins of the name Brighouse is bridge-house, we also have several bridges in the town over the M62, River Calder, and Calder and Hebble Canal. Our tagline for The Brighouse Festival and Brighouse Cinema in 2017-2018 is: “Bridging the arts with community”
We create unique arts and community events in the delightful spaces, heritage buildings, streets and halls of Brighouse with current contemporary and classical arts, innovative and accessible, inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds to participate and engage.
Our program of events includes theatre, music, literature, dance, photography, visual fine art and crafts. We have facilitated lectures, workshops, and drop-in creative sessions; will look for innovative ways of engaging with the public to introduce local people to great art; which will inspire and create activities which bring people together.
